Why Should I Learn Pro Tools?

As a partner of the music production company, MasterRecs, I can't tell you how many times I need to collaborate with musicians and singers by sharing Pro Tools files remotely.  Either a musician or singer is not in Nashville, or we are in a time crunch to complete a project and need some additional tracks ASAP.  It is essential, these days, for any working musician or singer to have a Pro Tools rig and to be proficient enough at using it to be able to create "master" quality recordings quickly.  To answer the question, "Why should I learn Pro Tools", I tell aspiring, as well as, working musicians and singers that the chances of making a living in the very competitive music business community now increase exponentially if they can create professional sounding tracks on their own gear.  If you are new to Pro Tools it can seem a daunting task to put together a system and to ascend that very steep learning curve to Pro Tools proficiency.

Fear not, all ye overwhelmed newbies!  Years ago when we first opened our studio, Thirteen Degrees Studio, home of our production company, MasterRecs, I had barely a working knowledge of Pro Tools. I had to rely completely on our expert engineers to create and record music for any project I was working on.  It didn't take me very long to discover that I needed to be able to operate independently of our engineers to accomplish my day to day tasks of composing and recording ideas.  Fortunately, I was surrounded by the best engineers in the business and I quickly learned to navigate a Pro Tools session just by watching them and asking a million questions.  Trust me, they are all very glad that I have now reached a level of proficiency and can let them get to their work of tweaking, mixing and mastering my ideas.  This is what prompted us to create the Thirteen Degrees Studio and Learning Center, a Pro Tools school designed for anyone who wants to get up and running quickly, recording sessions on their Pro Tools systems.  Once you learn the basics of the software, everything else seems to fall into place intuitively.  The hardest part of the whole process is jumping in.  I keep asking myself, "Why didn't I learn Pro Tools sooner?"
