You are posting a comment about... Why Should A Songwriter Learn Pro Tools?
When I started as a songwriter only a few songwriter-tech-nerds knew anything about recording their own songs. This is back when pro tools meant Matco or Snap-on. We all wrote for publishing companies that took care of recording our demos in big fancy studios. Those days are long gone and it is now up to the songwriter to be as self-sufficient as possible in order to survive. The good news is that with the development of the "new" Pro Tools Digital Audio Workstations (DAW's), it is very affordable for most aspiring or professional songwriters to produce studio quality demos of their songs. With a minimal investment in a laptop, Pro Tools software and some basic gear, you can have a working studio in a room or the basement of your house. You can even get free Pro Tools starter software from Avid Technologies to get your feet wet while you are learning Pro Tools.
With proper training and a basic knowledge of computers and word processing programs anyone can become fluent at using Pro Tools. Once basic templates are established and a workflow is set up, it becomes second nature to open a session and to record live musicians or to program tracks using a keyboard or pre-made drum loops. With the cost of professional demos ranging between $450 - $1,000 per song, the cost savings for doing your own recordings can be quite substantial.
